Cell stories turned one year old today. They published one of my stories, Los Pitayeros last fall. I think it was the only story I’ve published where afterward I couldn’t read it (didn’t / don’t have a droid / iphone).

‘Sup out there?

Operating on Stoke got hacked last week. Sorry for anyone who opened this blog and got a warning message. I’ve since had it scanned for malware (various times) and we’re good to go again.

The only thing is that in all the hours and frustration of trying to get everything restored, the subdomain site MIXTAPE WRITING ended up getting “nuked.”

Thanks to everyone who participated in that project.

Alright, getting back into the flow.

new Facebook Page for MIXTAPE WRITING

I created a new Facebook Page for mixtape writing.

Note on the graphic – the background is a screenshot of the soundwaves from the last field recording of the Colque’s fiesta.

Also, random note, I was surprised to see yesterday that Facebook has become the #2 biggest site on the internet. If used to be #4 behind YouTube and Yahoo.

new work forthcoming at 34th Parallel

just found out that my story ‘the airstrip’ will be included in the upcoming (April) issue of 34th Parallel.

Here is an excerpt:

I think about the phrase “ground-level.”

I think about soldiers on the ground and how you can’t see them as you’re approaching.

My mind plays a scene of a gaucho reaching down and picking up a machete.

My mind plays a scene of me as a little boy going into the closet and looking at my dad’s 12 gauge pump shotgun above the closet door.

My mind plays a scene of him saying “when Martin Luther King was assassinated you couldn’t find any ammo. It was all sold out.”

My mind plays a scene of him saying “can you imagine the Holocaust happening in downtown Atlanta? Our people just gave themselves up. The schvartzes would’ve fought the Nazis to the last man.”

announcing placefinding blog

After yesterday’s post about placefinding, along with the immediate response I decided to cook up a really simple blog which you can find here: Placefinding.wordpress.com. The premise is really simple-it will explore the way people connect and reconnect to place via their lifestyles, writing, art, and other expressions as well as just placefinding as an ethic and ethos that seems to be somehow within, outside of, and underlying our cultural lexicon all at the same time.
